NASCUS Re-Accredits Texas CU Dept.

The National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) re-accredited Texas Credit Union Department in July.

A NASCUS accreditation is valid for five years and TCUD was last accredited in 2011. The regulatory agency was first accredited in 1996.

TCUD is among 26 agencies nationwide with NASCUS accreditation. The association supervises 185 state-chartered credit unions with $35 billion in collective assets. Agencies are subject to annual review.

"Accreditation is credible evidence of an agency's capabilities," according to the NASCUS website. It provides recognition of the professionalism of a state agency's regulators, supervisors and staff. It may also provide the impetus and support for legislation that modifies and/or modernizes state law."
