National Credit Union Foundation names 2019 Wegner honorees

The National Credit Union Foundation has unveiled the winners of the 2019 Herb Wegner Memorial Awards, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a person or program within the credit union movement.

The latest round of honorees are:

Outstanding individual achievement: Diana Dykstra, president/CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues

Outstanding individual achievement: Crystal Long, president/CEO of the $2.7 billion GECU Credit Union of El Paso, Texas

Outstanding organization: The Nusenda Credit Union Foundation. According to its website, the Nusenda foundation was launched in 2015 by the $2.2 billion Nusenda Federal Credit Union of Albuquerque, N.M., to support the credit union’s “new and existing philanthropic programs, financial and technical innovations, and educational initiatives.”

Gigi Hyland, NCUF

“In our fast-paced world, it’s so important to take the time to celebrate those in our movement who have gone above and beyond to embody the credit union difference,” Gigi Hyland, executive director of the Foundation, said in a statement. “These awardees truly embody dedication to promoting the credit union philosophy. They have created innovative concepts, and provided leadership that has had significant, lasting, and measurable impact on the credit union movement.”

The awards ceremony will take place during the foundation’s annual gala, held on March 11, 2019 at the Marriott Marquis in Washington in conjunction with the Credit Union National Association Governmental Affairs Conference.
