WASHINGTON – The National CU Foundation was notified yesterday it won a $710,296 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which the Foundation will award to 22 credit unions to help support their homeownership counseling programs. The credit unions will use the funding to leverage almost $6 million in low-income homeownership counseling programs. Through September 2008, these 22 credit unions plan to reach nearly 10,000 potential first-time homebuyers, including 6,525 who earn less than 80% of their area median income.
