MADISON, Wis. - The winners of this year's National Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility and Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Awards were recently chosen from among 152 state winners.
First place winners of the Dora Maxwell Award include: Great Horizons FCU in Hammond, Ind.; Pee Dee FCU in Florence, S.C.; Dakota Plains CU in Edgeley, N.D.; Citizens Community CU in Devils Lake, N.D.; Cloverbelt CU in Wausau, Wis.; Merck Sharp & Dohme FCU in North Wales, Pa.; American Heritage FCU in Philadelphia; and Downriver Chapter of Credit Unions in Mich.
Winners of the Louise Herring Award were Gwinnett FCU in Lawrenceville, Ga., and SRP FCU in North Augusta, S.C.
The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award is awarded to credit unions in seven asset-size categories and a chapter category for outstanding social responsibility projects in the community in which it is located.
The Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action is given to a credit union demonstrating the internal application of credit union philosophy to help better financial matters and increase financial education for its members.
Winning entries will be on display at CUNA's 2007 Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), Feb. 25-28, in Washington.
