Navy FCU Cleared For Landing Next To Huge Call Center

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Escambia County Commission approved the sale of the 240-acre Langley Bell 4-H Center to Navy FCU yesterday for $3.6 million, clearing the way for expansion of the credit union giant’s vast call center, the biggest credit union facility in the nation.

The $48 billion credit union plans to build on the 4-H land, adjacent to its 65-acre Heritage Oaks call center that currently employs 2,200 workers in four buildings and is expected to employ as many as 3,000 over the next year.

Yesterday’s vote followed last week’s approval by the youth council of the 4-H, who represent 4-H clubs across the county and whose vote was critical. The 4-H has used the land since it was donated to the group in 1943.

Navy Federal plans to build additional call center facilities on the property, which could employ thousands more over the next two decades. The state has agreed to provide $1.6 million in tax incentives for the project because of the new jobs it will create.
