ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has approved a charter for 1st Bergen FCU in Hackensack, N.J., which will serve almost one million residents of Bergen County, just outside of Manhattan.
The year's first new credit union was organized by the Bergen County Community Action Partnership, an anti-poverty agency. The credit union is scheduled to open in March.
There were only six new credit unions chartered last year, one of the fewest since the signing of the Federal Credit Union Act.
