NCUA Distributes PSA on Deposit Insurance

NCUA has distributed a public service announcement to assure members of credit unions in the states affected by Hurricane Katrina that their funds are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). The PSA notes the NCUSIF was created by Congress in 1979 to insure member accounts up to a $100,00 federal limit and carries the "full faith and credit" of the U.S. government.

Separately, NCUA has added to its website at www.ncua.gov additional information answering some frequently asked questions. Among the information in the FAQ section are explanations of how to receive funds from their accounts where service may have been interrupted and how members might access their accounts remotely.

NCUA has established a toll-free phone number (800-827-6282) to assist the public with any credit union-related account matters.
