The new CU was granted a community charter to serve people living, working, worshiping, attending school, or participating in associations headquartered in the city of New Brunswick, N.J., and the borough of Highland Park, N.J.; Individuals participating in programs to alleviate poverty or distress that are located in the approved area, and incorporated and unincorporated organizations located in or maintaining a facility in the approved area, and organizations of such persons.

Scheduled to begin operations in October, NCUA said it will offer a full menu of product offerings when operations launch.

The credit union's name stems from one of its primary backers, the Kahle/Austin Foundation, which was created to build an Internet library offering permanent access for researchers, historians, scholars, people with disabilities, and the general public to historical collections that exist in digital format.
