NCUA Won't Intervene In Case Where Member Says He Was Expelled From CU In Order To Be Kept Off Board

NCUA said it will not intervene on behalf of a credit union member who was expelled from the credit union.

In a new legal opinion letter, NCUA said in internal credit union disputes, such as expulsions, there is no right of appeal to the NCUA board. The unnamed member said the board reduced the number of seats on the panel from nine to seven in order to deprive the member of election to the board.

The member also alleges that he was improperly expelled with a number of other members at a special meeting last August. NCUA said neither the Federal CU Act nor its regulations address the issue.
