The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) said that close to $170,000 has been raised in support of efforts being undertaken by the World Council of Credit Unions to assist victims of the Asian tsumani. The NCUF's contribution brings the total received by the Worldwide Credit Union Foundation to $350,000. WOCCU has estimated that as many as 800 credit unions in Sri Lanka alone were destroyed by the tsunami. Those credit unions, along with the surrounding communities, are now attempting to rebuild themselves.
