Nearly 200 'Attend' Journal, MarkMonitor Phishing Web Seminar

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Nearly 200 people "attended" a web seminar hosted by the Credit Union Journal and Mark Monitor entitled, "Protecting Your Members Against Phishing Attacks."

The web seminar included presentations from two CU IT executives and an expert with San Francisco-based MarkMonitor, which provides anti-phishing attack solutions and other services to CUs. Participating in the web seminar were Carolyn James, VP-Information Services with USA FCU in San Diego; Michael Adame, the director of Data Security at Texans CU in Dallas, and Dr. Laura Mather, MarkMonitor's Senior Scientist focusing on advanced analytics.

The three executives offered different views on how CUs can and have responded to a variety of phishing-based threats.

James noted, for instance, that credit unions that serve university and school employees are particularly vulnerable because their members are easy to identify, making it simpler for a phisher to contact them and create the illusion they are with the CU.

In USA Federal's case, it has even created a "Member Safety Page" on its website that James shared as part of the web seminar.
