Nebraska Credit Union League Signs on to Star Network

Nebraska Credit Union League in Omaha has partnered with First Data's Star Network.

The Star Network offers credit unions access to the largest independent debit network, product innovation to support evolving network needs including advanced security functionality to minimize fraud, participation in all primary aspects of the payment ecosystem, and support for regulatory and compliance needs, according to the First Data's press release Friday.

"It has always been our goal to provide credit unions with the best possible products and services available," Scott Sullivan, president and chief executive of NCUL, said in the release. "The addition of Star Network services to our strategic partner relationships allows us to offer Nebraska credit unions an array of 'best in class' services to compete in today's extremely competitive financial marketplace."

Atlanta-based First Data created the Star Network in 1992. In 2004, the company announced that Star Network would provide encryption technology for Apple Pay, and that year the service became the first ATM network to adopt the Visa and MasterCard common application IDs for EMV-compliant debit transactions, according to its website.

First Data announced in May that it is updating its Star PIN debit network, introducing a PINless debit option for transactions under $50, a signature debit option that takes advantage of "learning" technology to increase its crime-fighting power over time.
