New Ad Campaign Poses Washington CUs As Calm In A Turbulent Sea

SPOKANE, Wash.– The Evergreen State’s credit unions hope to convince consumers their credit unions are the safe place to stow their savings during these hard times with a new multi-media ad campaign tagged ‘Financial Chaos-Free Moments’.

The campaign centers on three 15-second TV ads–supplemented by radio, print and Internet spots-- that focus on peaceful interludes outside of the crumbling financial world.

The initiative is being funded voluntarily by 45 credit unions participating in the Credit Unions of Washington cooperative campaign that also sponsored a Super Bowl commercial two years ago during the Seattle Seahawks’ appearance in the NFL championship, as well as a viral Internet campaign starring movie star Carl Weathers and called changeisbeautiful.

"Given the economic climate, we’ve shifted the direction of the campaign to general awareness and an attempt to contrast us with banks," said Kevin Foster-Keddie, president of Washington State Employees CU, who chairs the cooperative campaign committee. "Our goal through all of these campaigns is to build awareness and to pose credit unions as an alternative."

The ads, which can be viewed at http://www.discovercreditunions.com/, were produced by Seattle ad shop Big Bang Electrical, which also produced the highly successful changeisbeautiful campaign.

The ads are being coordinated with a separate campaign being run by BECU, which is also a contributor to the cooperative effort.

The cooperative campaign has raised $780,000 so far for the ads, which began Feb. 16 and are running statewide. The campaign is scheduled to run through the end of March.
