- ALBANY, N.Y. (05/24/00) - Wayne Diesel, presidentof the New York CU League, resigned Tuesday, three years aftertaking the helm of one of the largest state credit union tradegroups. No reason other than personal and family was given. Diesel,a longtime operative in Empire State politics, took over in 1997after former league president Charles Whitney was forced out overhis role in the CUNA credit card fiasco as chairman of CUNA ServiceGroup (CSG). William Mellin, chief operating officer of theleague's CUC Mortgage Corp. CUSO, has been appointed InterimPresident and will be assuming this role following the upcomingtransition period.
