New York Solicits Financial EducationProposals

NEW YORK - (12/06/05) -- The state Banking Departmentannounced it is requesting proposals for financial literacyprograms to promote financial education throughout New York state.Participants are encouraged to submit proposals that aim tostabilize and revitalize low- to moderate-income areas in thestate. Programs that target chronically underserved populationswill receive special consideration. The program will be funded bythe proceeds of settlements negotiated with companies cited forviolations of laws or regulations. A 2003 advertising campaign thatwarned of predatory lending, for example, was funded by asettlement with Household International.
