NEW YORK-The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions and the National Credit Union Foundation, Washington, said they are now accepting applications for the newly created Credit Union Development Corps.

The Corps will conduct exchanges between the extensive network of Credit Union Development Educators and the Federation's network of Community Development Credit Unions (CDCUs), located in low-income communities across the United States.

DEs will visit CDCUs for up to two weeks, during which time they will share their expertise with their hosts and have the opportunity to learn how these innovative institutions effectively serve their low-income members. A representative from participating CDCUs will then spend one to two weeks at the DE's institution learning about their programs and operations. Major support for the program is provided by the Ford Foundation and CUNA Mutual Group.

Interested DEs should contact Tom Decker at cude ncuf.coop. CDCUs wishing to participate should contact Pamela Owens at (800) 437-8711, Ext. 215 (powens cdcu.coop), or Pablo DeFilippi at ext. 204 (Pablo cdcu.coop), both of whom are Development Educators.

CU Creates Youth Advisory Council

SAN ANTONIO-The $3.9-billion Security Service Federal Credit Union (SSFCU) has selected 10 San Antonio high school students to participate in its first annual Youth Advisory Council.

The students will assist the credit union in the development of new youth products and services, helping co-create a new generation of financial products and services for children, youth and young adults, Security Service FCU said.

"High school students are full of intellectual capital and creativity, and they already have experience producing and participating in what they choose to consume via online channels. We are excited about giving them the opportunity to have direct input to our product development process," said John Worthington, SSFCU SVP. "This is a natural progression for our work with youth-moving from our training and educating them to empowering them to teach us new things about their generation."
