NCUA Reschedules Board Meeting

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has rescheduled closed board meeting to Nov. 17 at 10:00 A.M. The open meeting is still scheduled for Nov. 18th but will be held at 9:00 A.M.

 

WOCCU DUO Named To Hall of Fame

MADISON, Wis.-Stanley Kuehn, who heads World Council of Credit Unions' development program in Ethiopia, and his wife, Gloria, have been named to the National Cooperative Business Association's Cooperative Hall of Fame. The Kuehns will be formally inducted at the annual Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony on May 4, 2011, at the National Press Club in Washington, along with former CUNA CEO Dan Mica.

 

UFCU A Top Place To Work

AUSTIN, Texas-University FCU has been named one of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas 2011 as part of a project sponsored by TEXAS MONTHLY, the Texas Association of Business, the Texas State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, and Best Companies Group. A total of 100 companies were selected.

 

Member Wins $5K For Erasing Debt

DEER PARK, Texas- Candalario Rodriguez is the latest to win $5,000 AS PART OF Shell FCU's Operation Erase My Debt program. The CU said that since February, its micro-site at www.OperationEraseMyDebt.com has been visited more than 7,100 times and more than 455 member stories have been shared. Rodriguez financed a HELC with SFCU that he is using to reduce existing debt. Some 1,725 loans qualified for the contest during Q3.

 

3 Airline CUs To Fly Together

HAWTHORNE, Calif.-SkyOne FCU, the former Civil Aeronautics Administration employees CU is acquiring two smaller airline CUs, Pacific Advantage FCU, which serves Japan Airlines, and Cypress West FCU, which serves Australia's Qantas Airways. The combined CU will have assets of almost $350 million and serve 28,500 members. The surviving credit union, SkyOne will be led by its current CEO, Eileen Rivera.

ACUC, Discovery To Combine

MADISON, Wis.-CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group will combine aspects of the former's America's CU Conference and the latter's Discovery Conference in 2011. Discovery Conference breakout sessions will be added to the ACUC, which is scheduled for June 19-22, 2011.

 

Morrell 'Distinguished CU Professional'

VANCOUVER, Wash.-Jim Morrell, SVP-support services and CIO of iQ Credit Union, has been named by the Washington CU League as its 2010 Distinguished Credit Union Professional. Morrell has been in CUs 17 years.

 

Top CU Execs Square Off

MADISON, Wis.-Final presentations for CUES' Next Top Credit Union Exec competition will be made Nov. 8. 109 Student Branches In Wisconsin

PEWAUKEE, Wis.-The Wisconsin CU League reported that 109 CU branches are now being run by students inside schools in the state, with some 5,600 students having deposited $2 million in total to date.

NCUF Marks Its 30th Anniversary

MADISON, Wis.-The National CU Foundation is marking its 30th anniversary. Known initially as the CUNA Foundation, it changed names and became a true charitable foundation in 1991. To date it has awarded more than $25 million worth of grants in the name of its mission "to promote and improve consumer financial independence through credit unions."

NCUA Liquidates 16th CU of Year

TAMPA, Texas.-NCUA has liquidated the $3.7-million Phil-Pet FCU, citing insolvency. It is the 16th liquidation of 2010. Accounts have been transferred to Pantex FCU in Borger, Texas.
