The resolution, drafted by Self-Help CU, says credit unions want immigration reform legislation to include “smart border security and a process for workers already in the U.S. to obtain earned legal status.”

The resolution says immigrants have $22.9 billion in consumer purchasing power in North Carolina. It also says more than $10 billion in receipts were generated by and 63,000 jobs provided at immigrant-owned businesses in the state.

The resolution notes credit unions have been a “leading service provider” to immigrant populations.
