EEFCU Intro's E-Checking

EL PASO, Texas-El Paso Employees FCU has introduced an e-checking account, which at debut was paying 3.03% APY on balances up to $5,000. Beyond the interest rate, El Paso Employees' e-checking accounts offer free online bill pay, e-statements, unlimited check writing, no minimum balance requirements, no monthly service fees and reimbursement for fees incurred at any foreign ATM.

Account holders can make deposits from home, using remote deposit capture technology, and also have access to EPEFCU's eBanker hotline, which can be accessed both over the phone and online. In order to fully qualify for the 3.03% yield, account holders must process 45 qualified transactions per quarter, including online home banking transactions, ACH withdrawals, ATM withdrawals and Visa debit card purchases.

Teens Are Getting The Edge

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Alabama Telco CU here has launched 'Edge,' a new account designed to teach teens age 13 to 19 about money-management skills and the benefits of saving.

Teens can visit the Edge Facebook page and website (www.alatelco.org/edge) for tips, videos, special contests, giveaways and other fun facts. Edge members can also apply for other products the CU offers as they get older, including checking accounts and a student credit card. Until then, however, teens who refer a friend to Edge receive a $20 cash incentive for doing so.

Alabama Telco said it conducted a number of teen focus groups in planning the account and built the program out of an understanding that teens are not getting the basic financial skills they need from school and parents.

 

Associated CU Makes Deposits EZ

ATLANTA-Associated CU here has launched EZDeposit, which adds remote-deposit functionality to its suite of online banking services. Members can use their home or office scanner to make deposits, and SVP-Marketing and Administrative Services Glenn C. Miller said that EZDeposit is also being developed for the credit union's mobile banking platform.

Separately, the credit union has also instituted a "double point" policy for any Visa credit or debit card purchase toward gasoline. The promotion is set to run through June 15.

Associated CU has 27 branches in Metro Atlanta serving more than 150,000 members with $1.2 billion in assets.

 

OUR CU Adds FamilyMint Program

ROYAL OAK, Mich.-OUR CU here has partnered with FamilyMint, a financial education program for children age 5-16. FamilyMint gives parents an interactive way to teach kids about money and budgeting and is available to OUR CU members at no cost.

Parents act as the banker and custodian of the money while kids use an online environment to allocate savings, set goals and make transactions. Parents can issue allowances, drive savings by instituting interest rates and reward deposits.

 

BALANCE Helps Members Stay On Track

LAKE MARY, Fla.-CFE FCU here has begun offering BALANCE, which is designed to improve members' financial fitness and money management. Skills. Members get free financial education, credit report review, and online resources for managing finances. Additionally, members can also discuss such matters over the phone for confidential financial counseling.

In Q1 2011, CFE reported its staff referred almost 3,000 members to BALANCE. Free seminars and webinars are available at branch locations throughout the year, and two seminars so far this year have focused on budgeting and car buying. Subsequent seminars are scheduled to cover personal finance for college students, identity theft and debt and credit.

More Than $10M in Mobile Deposits

VERNON HILLS, Ill.-Baxter CU here has announced Deposit Anywhere, a remote-deposit capture tool that allows members to make deposits using iPhone and Android phones, has now seen more than $10 million in deposits via the devices in the less than six months the service has been available. Members can also use a scanner on their home or office computer to make deposits. The service is provided to Baxter CU by EasCorp.

 

Navy Fed Offering 100% Auto Financing

VIENNA, Va.-In honor of a recent homecoming by troops to the Army's Ft. Campbell base here, Navy Federal CU is offering ongoing auto loans for military personnel and their families with up to 100% financing for soldiers returning home from overseas. The world's largest credit union also continues to offer soldiers and their families 100% financing on VA mortgages, with no PMI on most conventional loans. Soldiers purchasing with RealtyPlus can earn more than $5,000.

 

Summit Helps Members 'Go Green'

MADISON, Wis.-Summit CU here has been chosen to partner with Milwaukee Energy Efficiency for a special program for Milwaukee and Madison area homeowners. The programs-known as Me2 and Green Madison-are intended to teach participating homeowners how to increase their property's energy-efficiency and are offering loans for energy upgrades, incentives for energy assessments and more. The Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation has provided a $20-million grant for the programs. Qualifying residents have the option of financing as much as 100% of their home energy improvement costs approved through Me2 and Green Madison; Summit CU is offering loans ranging from $1,000 to $50,000 with repayment terms up to 15 years.
