One Captured After Gunfight At CU
SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif.–One of four men who held up a Vons FCU branch was quickly arrested, but the three others made their getaway after exchanging shots with a security guard.
A female employee was hurt during the robbery. The three other suspects escaped in a silver PT Cruiser, police said. At least one of the robbers fired shots at the guard when he tried to follow them.
The fourth suspect was arrested after fleeing in a red Buick, which was stopped by police on the nearby Santa Ana Freeway.
EasCorp FCU, FSCC Team Up
BURLINGTON, Mass.–Eastern Corporate FCU and Financial Service Centers Cooperative have teamed up to provide remote deposit taking from CUs with overseas branches. The service is being offered by Service CU in Portsmouth, N.H., which has begun receiving remote deposits from members of the military at its Ramstein, Germany branch.
The joint remote deposit program, which began stateside in 2005 through FSCC’s self-service kiosks, has now expanded to include CUs and their members anywhere in the world. Guest members will be able to access their credit unions from a U.S. credit union’s overseas branches, as long as their credit union participates in shared branching.
Data Breach Bill Advances In WA
OLYMPIA, Wash.–A key state legislative panel approved a data security bill that would make parties responsible for security breaches pay for costs incurred by credit unions, banks, consumers and other parties affected by the breach.
The CU-backed bill easily passed the House Insurance, Financial Services & Consumer Protection Committee, and now moves to the House Rules Committee for further consideration. A similar bill is moving through the state Senate.
Lawsuit Against APFCU Settled
REIDSVILLE, N.C.–Four members of American Partners FCU have settled a lawsuit against the CU and three other people after accusing the defendants of having lost substantial amounts of their savings in a risky investment scheme.
Details of the settlement were not released. For many of the plaintiffs the funds lost in Evergreen Security represented retirement funds.
Managers at Florida-based Evergreen pleaded guilty more than five years ago to a verity of criminal charges.
