One Day Phone Effort Raises $166,000 For PACs

Thirteen credit union CEOs and volunteers from California credit unions took to the phones and raised more than $166,000 for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues' federal and state political action committees during the leagues' second annual PAC Phone Bank. The goal had been $150,000 and the league said it expects more funds to be raised as additional commitments are sent. The telethon raised $47,575 for the Leagues' federal PAC, and $118,450 for the state PACs.

The phone bank ran from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a room at Wescom Credit Union here that was outfitted with telephones, computers, and fax machines.

Callers were recognized for "furthest to travel to beg for money," "best arm twister," and "most gentle caller." Former WesCorp CEO Dick Johnson also participated as a caller for the first time.

In addition to Johnson, staffing the phones were David L. Chatfield, Dean Christensen, Diana Dykstra, Richard Ghysels, Judy Happ, Richard Harris, Rick Haynie, Barry Jolette, Sheri Ledbetter, Sue Longson, Cheri Mora, and Tom Orman.
