ORNL FCU’s John McKittrick Retires

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – ORNL FCU, one of the most successful big credit unions in the country, said yesterday its longtime CEO John McKittrick is retiring.

McKittrick is being succeeded as president and CEO of the $1.3 billion credit union by Chris Johnson, chief operating officer at ORNL.

McKittrick went to work at the credit union, formally Oak Ridge National Laboratory, in 1989 as operations manager. He took over as CEO in 1993 when the credit union had $300 million in assets. The credit union was chartered in 1948 and currently serves 16 counties in central east Tennessee.

ORNL was one of the few big credit unions in the country to stay in the black through the turmoil of the past few years. It reported a $10.6 million net for 2010.
