Other Credit Union FOM & Name Changes

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.-Musicians' Credit Union and Interguild FCU here have merged to form the $80-million Musicians Interguild Credit Union. "Membership will be available to anybody who lives, works or worships in the Hollywood area," said Musicians Interguild CEO, Marc Jacoby, "as well as to members of numerous musicians' organizations and the guilds and unions comprising the membership of Interguild FCU"

The Interguild FCU office is remaining open and all staff retained.

LANSING, Mich.-The $774-million State Employees CU here, which earlier was approved to serve 28 counties in mid-Michigan with more than four million potential new members, will change its name April 3 to NuUnion Credit Union. Also sporting a new name: East Division FCU in Indiana is now ProFinance FCU.

CLEVELAND-After polling its membership of over 20,000 individuals, the Greater Cleveland Fire Fighters Credit Union (GCFFCU) received the necessary number of votes to officially change its name to Firefighters Community Credit Union. The name change follows an FOM expansion to everyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Cuyahoga and Lake counties. GCFFCU's new name and logo will officially be introduced on July 1, 2006.

RALEIGH, N.C.-NCUA has approved Local Government Federal Credit Union's request for a name change that doesn't sound like a name change. The new name is Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU). Until now, the formal name of the credit union was North Carolina Local Government Employees' Federal Credit Union. For a few years, the credit union used the trade name Local Government Federal Credit Union. NCUA permits a credit union to use a trade name so long as the public is not confused by its use. The formal credit union name must be used on official documents such as contracts and disclosures. The name change is part of a coordinated strategy by LGFCU to manage its corporate brand.

MIAMI-Dade County FCU has absorbed via merger the $6-million Miami Beach FCU, which will become a branch. DCFCU will now have $420 million in assets and 82,000 members.

PORTLAND, Maine-Several Maine credit unions have announced name changes. Notre Dame FCU is now New Dimensions FCU; Fort Kent FCU is now Acadia FCU, and St. Joseph's CU is now PeoplesChoice CU.

OLYMPIA, Wash.- The $31-million Social & Health Services Credit Union and the $11-million Evergreen FCU have announced plans to merge. The proposed merger has been OK'd by regulators and must go before the membership of EFCU for a vote. Social and Health Services was founded in 1953, Evergreen (originally known as Ke-W-He FCU) in 1951. A spokesperson said a new name has yet to be selected and that a branding firm has been retained.

BALTIMORE-TEAM Federal Credit Union and MTA Employees Credit Union, Inc., have merged to become Destinations Credit Union with $45 million in assets and more than 6,500 members.

"The new credit union name-Destinations-is already familiar as the moniker of our current member newsletter," said Brian J. Vittek, president of Destinations Credit Union. "The name also represents our focus of moving forward with better financial alternatives and smarter banking choices for our combined membership, the majority of whom work in the transportation industry."

MTA Credit Union was formed as a state-chartered credit union in 1935 under the name of The Baltimore Transit Employees' Credit Union to "promote thrift among its members by the accumulation of savings in small amounts, and loans only for provident purposes."

TEAM Federal Credit Union was first chartered on July 2, 1963 as Local #557 Federal Credit Union.

MARION, Ind.-Marion Independent FCU has changed its name to Afena FCU. The 48-year-old credit union has expanded its field of membership to serve Grant and Wabash counties.
