HARRISBURG, Penn. — As credit unions seek ways to cut expenses in light of today's economic storm, the groups that serve them are also feeling the pinch.
Case in point: conferences. A variety of trade groups are reporting meeting attendance is down (see related stories), and the same is true at the Pennsylvania CU Association. "To encourage participation, since this is our 75th annual convention, we slashed registration fees by 50%," said Diane Powell, director of communications, Pennsylvania Credit Union Association. "We also offer a free registration for attendees under 35 when accompanying a regular registrant."
Powell said the League is expecting attendance to be steady, and similar to last year, "in light of the economy and NCUA's assessment." "Much is due to the decrease in pricing for the convention," she noted.
Powell said the Pennsylvania league depends on the income brought in by the convention each year.
"We do rely on revenue from our annual convention to help fund the Associations mission of serving our credit unions," she said. "The impact is yet to be determined as we have not had our convention yet."
PCUA's annual conference is scheduled for May 14-16, in Hershey, Penn.
