People’s CU Mourns Long-Time Director, One-Time CEO

MIDDLETON, R.I. – Members and employees of People’s CU are mourning the death of James O’Connell Jr., who served as director of the state’s third largest credit union for four decades, and briefly as president.

O’Connell, who died last week at 89, also served as dean of the Naval War College, and was on the board of the now $375 million credit union from 1960 through 2000. He was also president for a year, in 1997.
