Plan Is To Track Volunteer Hours

The Maine Credit Union League has launched an initiative that will track the volunteer, community-service hours that credit unions, directors and staff donate to their communities.

The new program, called Credit Unions Share for ME, will track that data on a monthly basis. "What Credit Unions Share for ME seeks to accomplish is to increase awareness of how active Credit Unions, their staff and directors are as an entire movement, as well as to encourage new volunteer opportunities," said Jon Paradise, MCUL director of communications. Credit Unions Share for ME officially begins tracking the volunteer efforts on May 1, 2002.

The league said that in 2003, its Social Responsibility Committee will establish two new awards that recognize a credit union and a credit union staff member for outstanding commitment to community-service and promoting volunteerism in their communities.
