Police Shoot Robber After CUHold-up

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - (03/20/06) -- A man fleeing Alaska USA FCU afterThursday morning's armed robbery was shot and wounded minutes laterby local police. The suspect, identified as Christopher Charles,23, was shot after he rammed police cars while escaping then triedto get away on foot. The gunman, who had covered the license plateof his Toyota Supra with duct tape before the robbery, collidedwith three vehicles, including a police car, during busy midmorningtraffic. Charles allegedly robbed the credit union inside the FredMeyer store at gunpoint and made off with an undisclosed amount ofcash. The money from the robbery and several weapons were recoveredat the scene of the getaway car crash.
