CSCU Sponsors Debit Card Forum

CHICAGO-Approximately 75 credit union CEOs and others responsible for deibt cards attended the Debit Card Symposium here, sponsored by CSCU. Conference-goers were the first to hear the results of the 2004 Debit White Paper, "The Changing Environment of Debit in an Evolving Payment Systems Market," prepared by Raddon Financial Group (RFG) and sponsored by Card Services for Credit Unions (CSCU) and Visa. CSCU President Robert Hackney told the meeting there are a number of environmental factors influencing debit, including continued double-digit growth in debit cards and volume, PIN pad deployment and PIN prompting by merchants, PIN network consolidation and network ownership shift to more "merchant-centric" companies, and the permanent and negative impact of the Wal-Mart settlement on signature interchange.
