CUNA Mutual Group and PSCU have signed on as lead partners for Credit Union Miracle Day, the title sponsor group of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run in a collaboration set to run through 2019.
Credit Union Miracle Day is currently set to be the title sponsor of the race for the next three years.
Theresa Mann, CUMD Chair and president/CEO of The Partnership FCU, said the new three-year commitment adds PSCU and CUNA Mutual's "talent and energy to make an even greater impact" not just for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, but with the members of Congress who see and participate in the event.
More than 200 Congressmen and women serve as honorary race chairs, and nearly 800 Congressional staffers participate in the race each year. Along with the Washington race, events are also held in California and on U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Germany.
Chuck Fagan, president and CEO of PSCU, said in a statement that CUMD not only benefits children, but raises awareness about the important role credit unions play in their communities.
"With a new Congress taking office after the fall elections, there will be an even greater opportunity to spread the word about the credit union difference," he said.
Robert Trunzo, president/CEO of CUNA Mutual Group, noted his organization has been involved with CUMD for the past 15 years, starting as a founding sponsor – and there are no plans to change that anytime soon.
"What better way to gain national exposure for the credit union movement while helping kids being treated at premier children's hospitals?" he said.
Race Director Phil Stewart credited the "amazing level of credit union involvement" that has benefitted the race over the past 15 years, resulting in donations of more than $7.5 million to CMN Hospitals under the umbrella of Credit Unions for Kids.
The 45th running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is set for April 2, 2017. More information for credit unions is available at
