PSFCU Awards $300,000 In Scholarships

Polish & Slavic FCU has awarded a total of $300,000 in scholarships to 176 students - the largest amount of scholarship funds the credit union has ever granted.

The 30-year-old credit union, with more than $1 billion in assets, serves nearly 70,000 members of the Polish and Slavic communities throughout New York and New Jersey.

"As a credit union, we are more than a bank. Our mission centers on helping our members and their families. I believe that investing in education is one of the best and most effective services we can render to our member base. These scholarship recipients will one day assume a leadership role and their work will benefit the entire member community," said Alicja Malecka, the CEO of the PSFCU. "Their success will be the success of our credit union."

The credit union awarded its scholarship dollars as part of two separate programs: the PSFCU Scholarship Program awarded 10 scholarships of $5,000, 60 scholarships of $2,000, and 20 scholarships of $1,500. The credit union also awarded 86 scholarships totaling $100,000 under the New York State Credit Union League program guidelines.

"To the best of my knowledge, this is an unprecedented program in terms of the breadth and scope undertaken by any ethnic credit union," said Krzysztof Matyszczyk, Chairman of the board of PSFCU.
