Among the names under consideration are: United Seattle CU, Puget Sound CU, The Center CU, Blue Pacific CU and Rewards CU.

The five: Eastside CU, Pacific CU, Westside CU, Eastside Municipal Employees CU and Financial Services CU, are the only survivors of 20 credit unions founded by Charles Vogel in 1959 and run out of the Credit Union Center. Wendy Larson, Vogel’s daughter who managed all five, will continue to head the new credit union and its $34 million in assets.

Each of the five reported a loss for 2008, with the combined loss $950,888.

Each of the smaller institutions was chartered to serve local labor unions and/or employee groups.

So far, the members overwhelmingly favor the name Puget Sound CU by a five-to-one margin over Blue Pacific CU. United Seattle CU was a distant third.
