BOSTON – A man who dropped the loot he had just stolen from Portuguese CU and ran after being confronted by police, may be the same goateed bandit responsible for as many as seven other bank robberies in recent weeks.

Police said Gilbert Allen Matos passed a note to a teller on Saturday at the Portuguese CU demanding money. He was confronted by the officer, and dropped the money and ran. Cambridge police arrested Matos at about 11 p.m. Sunday.
The FBI said they want to question the alleged credit union robber in connection with the other area robberies, which were carried out by a man with a black goatee.
