Recently, 17 members joined the list, said Carla Leuck, community relations coordinator of the $786 million asset CU. To receive the honor, a member must donate a total of 240 hours and five years of service to the community and/or become a member of the RCU board of directors. The latest award winners combined gave more than 15,975 hours to community causes.

"RCU now has a total of 111 Lifetime Volunteers," Leuck said. "They continue to give their time, are very dedicated to volunteerism, and deserve to be commended for the jobs they are doing for our communities."

The recognition efforts that include a holiday dinner and a summer picnic are an extension of its Volunteer Program established by the CU in 1993 to promote volunteerism and community spirit. It was inspired by CEO Charles M. Grossklaus who is "all about volunteering in the community" and designed to reward members who donate four hours of their time each month to others, said Michelle Buss, marketing assistant.

Buss said that she maintains a list of volunteer opportunities for interested members that include both onsite and community options. For example, she said volunteers help with RCU's monthly Cookie Day inside the branches by passing out cookies and coffee to members. In addition, they participate in RCU sponsored events such as its annual RCU Charity Classic and its Food and Bear Drive.

Presently, there are 380 volunteers who give an average of 30,000 annually to make the community a better place to live, she said.
