Record 112-Inch Snow Storm Doesn't Hamper Northeast CUs

ALBANY, N.Y. - Despite recent snowfall measuring 112 inches recently, upstate New York and New England credit unions were open for business.

"It's business as usual," said Tracy Connors, VP of professional development and member services at the New York State Credit Union League in Albany. "On Friday, Feb. 9th we called and spoke with all five credit unions in Oswego County, where the heaviest snowfall has been measured, and they're all doing fine. They're used to it, so they know how to cope.

"They told us that some members had called, asking if the credit union was open and were happy to hear that business is going on as usual, with no closings," said Connors.

The forecast calls for continuing "Lake Effect" snowfall, noted Connors, so everyone is preparing for more snow. "We're expecting a 'Nor'easter' soon, so we'll see," she added.

Mary Greeney, manager at Oswego Country CU said, "There's seven feet of snow out there and it's windy, so the drifts are even higher, but we're open and surviving."

Rob Kimmett, SVP of marketing for the Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island CU Leagues reported that some CUs had closed early to allow employees to get home safely because icy road conditions were dangerous.

"Our metro area didn't get much snow, but in the snow belt and ski area they were happy to get it because they needed it. But all our credit unions are open for business."
