WILKES-BARRE, Penn.–In a reverse of the trend at many U.S.-based company, Sallie Mae reported that over the next 18 months it will return to the United States some 2,000 call center jobs that it had earlier moved overseas.
Approximately 600 of those jobs are to be based in Wilkes-Barre. The student lender is also hiring IT and operations support roles. “The current economic environment has caused our communities to struggle with job losses,” said CEO Albert Lord. “They need jobs, and we will put 2,000 of them into U.S. facilities as soon as we possibly can.”
