Rise Stemmed In Longterm Mortgage Rates

- McLEAN, Va. (01/28/00) - The five-week rise inlongterm mortgage rates was halted this week as the benchmark30-year, fixed-rate mortgage averaged 8.25%, slightly down fromlast week's 8.26%, according to Freddie Mac. The average for15-year, fixed-rate mortgages also dipped slightly to 7.84%, from7.86% last week. The rate for one-year Treasury-indexed,adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs) rose slightly to 6.65%, from 6.56%last week.
