ATLANTA-Use of P2P payments is increasing, but even more so, so is awareness.
Research by SYNERGISTICS titled, "A New Perspective on Consumer Payment Habits" found four-in-10 Internet households report having heard of P2P and that awareness tends to be highest (54%) among those ages 18 to 34, vs. just 30% of those age 50 or older. The survey also found that about 9% of Internet households have used a mobile P2P payment service.
"Currently, one-tenth of consumers have made mobile P2P payments, but four times that many are aware of the service, shared William H. McCracken, CEO of Synergistics. "As awareness of this new service continues to broaden...usage will increase as well. Growth in usage of mobile person-to-person payments...may be a factor in the further decline of both cash and checks."
