ST. PAUL, Minn. – A man who put a gun to the head of an employee at Heartland CU and robbed the credit union of $18,000 last March was sentenced to 18 years in prison last week.

Samuel Ewing, 29, was sentenced to 139 months for the robbery and another 84 months for using a 9-millimeter handgun during the heist.
Ewing walked into the credit union last March 26 and approached a front-desk employee, put a gun to her head and kept it there as he walked her to the counter and had her put money into a bag. He walked out with $18,605 and drove away.
A police officer pursued Ewing, who crashed his truck and took off on foot. The officer caught Ewing, recovering the cash and the loaded gun.
