EL PASO, Texas – A 23-year-old illegal immigrant convicted of last year March’s armed robbery at Greater El Paso CU was sentenced to more than five years in prison last Tuesday – his birthday.
Ramon Aguirre-Gueta was sentenced to 64 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to robbing Greater El Paso CU of $843 on March 17, and for illegal re-entry after deportation.
Aguirre approached a bank teller, handed the teller a note indicating that he was armed and demanded money. Aguirre left the credit union and fled across the border to Mexico. On April 12 he voluntarily surrendered to Customs and Border Protection officers at the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry.
Aguirre had been deported in March 2006 following a federal conviction in El Paso for illegal re-entry.
