EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. - (08/19/04) Credit unions in the south central U.S.should be alert to a fake night deposit box scam hitting banks inTexas and three other states. Thieves make it appear the regularnight deposit box is under construction and that a temporary box,made of steel and not giving any indication it isnt real,should be used. Although most night deposit boxes have keys, thefake boxes do not, and police believe the scam is working becausethose who often make the deposits, part-time and young employees,just want to get home. Two of the scammers have been captured by avideo camera, but no arrests have been made.
