RALEIGH, N.C.-State Employees CU said its SECU Foundation has exceeded $20 million in college scholarships since its inception five years ago, making it one of the biggest higher education scholarship programs in the country.
The SECU Foundation's "People Helping People" scholarships are funded from member funds and are awarded each year to students at every one of the state's public high schools. These four-year college scholarships, valued at $10,000 each, are granted to graduating seniors for study at one of the 16 University of North Carolina System campuses.
Each recipient is chosen by the individual high school's scholarship selection committee. The scholarship award recognizes the student's community involvement, leadership skills, character and integrity, as well as scholastic achievement.
