EUGENE, Ore. – 2008—SELCO Community CU announced yesterday it has awarded 122 mini-grants of up to $250 each for a total of $29,502 to classrooms in the credit union’s service areas.

The classroom projects selected to receive SELCO grants focused on building a number of academic skills, including reading, earth science, physical science, social studies, and environmental sciences. The projects ranged from reading to elderly patients at a local assisted-living center, to hydroponic gardening, to "Barbie bungee-jumping."
SELCO has awarded the grants for more than a decade, originally as a response to local school budget cuts.
