PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – Service CU contributed $15,000 to the New Hampshire Coast Guard Monument Committee to help erect a monument at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery.

The cost for the monument itself is expected to be $15,000 to $20,000, but the New Hampshire Coast Guard Monument Committee is looking to raise $25,000 to $30,000 to also maintain the monument.

“Our roots came from Pease Air Force Base when the credit union opened in 1957, and now extends to service members around the world,” said Gordon Simmons, president of the $1.2 billion credit union. “Therefore, it seems especially fitting with our strong connection to the military that we contribute to this worthy cause.”

The donation will help the committee present to the state a Coast Guard monument on the Memorial Walk at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. The dedication will be held Aug. 6. The Coast Guard motto will be engraved on the front of the monument, along with the phrase:  Dedicated to all men and women who served in the U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary.
