Seven Seventeen Credit Union Hosts First-Ever Teachers Academy

WARREN, OHIO - Seven Seventeen Credit Union Inc. recently hosted the first Teachers Academy, an initiative of State Treasurer Richard Cordray's office.

The academy provided a two-day training session for any teacher in Ohio who plans to introduce personal finance education into their classroom, or for those who may have already begun doing so. These sessions were to prepare educators for the new curriculum taking effect in 2010.

Shirley June Wittenauer of the credit Union's marketing department provided teachers with an overview of the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) materials. NEFE is an independent, non-profit foundation dedicated to helping all Americans obtain the information and gain the skills necessary to take control of their personal finances. As a liaison between NEFE and local schools, Seven Seventeen helped provide 7,500 students last school year with educational materials to increase financial literacy and responsibility.
