EAST LANSING, Mich.-The headquarters of MSU FCU has been recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council for earning a LEED certification as a gold building.
LEED certifies construction for its sustainable design and evaluates site development, water conservation, efficiency, material selection, lifestyle and air quality.
"Having this designation is important to us; it confirms that we are doing the right thing," said President/CEO Pat McPharlin, noting the building protects against water run-off, reduces the heat effect, protects members and employees from toxic materials and air, and uses recycled materials.
The CU is celebrating its achievement with a "So Green We're Gold" campaign where members can earn higher dividends with Gold certificates and giving lower loan rates to members selecting fuel-efficient vehicles. Members can watch a video and then enter for a chance to win a Green Prize Pack, below, that includes a water saving shower head, a programmable thermostat, a four-pack of EcoSmart energy efficient light bulbs, and one solar battery charger for portable electronic devices.
