DEXTER, Me. – Two men were sentenced to prison this week for forging $14,725 in Maine Highlands FCU checks that were stolen from a soldier while he was in Iraq.
The men were forged checks owned by 23-year-old Shawn Burke, who lost his life savings last year when a box of checks was stolen and his credit union account was emptied. Burke is now serving a second tour of duty in Iraq.
