South Bay Credit Union hires new president and CEO

South Bay Credit Union in Redondo Beach, California, has hired Paris Chevalier as its president and CEO after a national search.

South Bay's previous president, Jennifer Oliver, moved to a role at Municipal Credit Union in New York last year. Maricela Jauregui has been interim president since Oliver's departure, and will remain in charge of customer experience after Chevalier arrives on Aug. 9.

Chevalier was previously chief experience officer at University & State Employees Credit Union in San Diego. Before joining USE in 2019, she was Xceed Financial Credit Union’s vice president of marketing and its communications and chief experience officer.

Seventy-six percent of South Bay’s 9,000 members use online banking, and 92% communicate with the credit union solely by email or text.

South Bay’s branches were rarely crowded during the pandemic, Jauregui said. The organization offered members Microsoft Teams videoconference software if they did not want to go into a branch. Now the credit union is poised to jump to a new level of growth.

South Bay Credit Union opened in 1953. It manages assets of about $135 million. The credit union runs three branches in Redondo Beach and Lomita.
