Step Right Up! CU of Ohio Unveils Rebrand at Carnival

Columbus, Ohio — While hosting its second annual community carnival at its Hilliard branch last week, Credit Union of Ohio used the occasion to unveil a new logo and refreshed website.

"The primary reason for the rebrand is to update and refresh Credit Union of Ohio's image so that we remain an attractive choice for current and prospective members," the $130 million CU said on its website. "In order for the credit union to move forward in the coming years we need to continuously build our membership base."

The old logo presented "design challenges," according to the CU, so last year a rebrand committee of Credit Union of Ohio employees was created to meet with an outside rebranding consultant. To ensure a balanced representation, the committee included members with a wide range of experience level and years of service at the institution.

According to the CU, the three triangular shapes in the new logo outline the shadow of the old flag logo. The red triangles represent "connection," opening in an "upward and positive direction toward the future."

The top red triangle represents the members, while the bottom triangle represents Credit Union of Ohio. The blue triangle represents the community, and both red triangles make a path through it "because community is our foundation and what we're called to give back to."

"By giving back, we become elevated and bonded together. Our new branding and logo signifies growth, community and positive change. All pillars of the credit union philosophy," the CU said.

Carnival Nearly Washed Out

As for the carnival, CU of Ohio said a severe storm struck Hilliard earlier in the week and nearly cancelled the event, but then more than 400 people came out for a night of family-friendly fun.

The local fire department stopped by with its fire truck and families enjoyed free hot dogs from a local food truck. Carnival guests also enjoyed a variety of free game stations, live music, face painting, a bounce house, balloon twisting, prizes, popcorn, cotton candy and more.

"Our vision is to make this a true community event where everyone feels welcome, so we were thrilled with the turnout this year," said Jill Gerschutz, Credit Union of Ohio's VP of marketing. "We've received calls from interested community partners and will consider ideas to grow this event as we plan for 2016."
