SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Man believed to be responsible for as many as eight area credit union and bank robberies, including last month’s hold-up at Sterlent CU, was arrested last week after he allegedly hit a Citibank branch near here.
The suspect, dubbed the Straw Hat Bandit for the headgear he wore during most of the heists, was detained after a county K-9 unit saw him and detained him. They found the straw hat portrayed on numerous surveillance videos and cash in the car, along with other telltale items.
The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Michael Osgood.
Authorities were on the lookout for Osgood after employees at the Sterlent CU branch told police that on June 9 a suspect that looked like the man who robbed them on May 12 approached the branch and they refused to let him in. Later that night, a man of the same description robbed the US Bank Safeway branch nearby.
