WAYNE, Pa. - (10/07/04) -- SunGard Data Systems Inc. said itplans to spin off its popular disaster recovery unit, whichprovides back-up data sources for credit unions and otherbusinesses, to shareholders. Plans call for the unit, to be calledSunGard Availability Services, to be spun off tax-free toshareholders in what is expected to be a one-for-one exchange. Theunit, the market leader in disaster recovery of data, employs about2,000 people.
